Virginia MOCA hosts free Community Day at new museum location

Virginia MOCA hosted a free Community Day on Saturday, May 9, at its new Virginia Beach location, in partnership with Virginia Humanities. The event featured inaugural exhibitions including Nina Chanel Abney: The Pursuit of Happiness and Seamless: Art and Design, along with hands-on art making, live performances, artist demonstrations, a U-Haul art gallery, food trucks, and workshops for all ages.

Student artists bring diverse visions to IVC’s annual gallery exhibit

The 2026 IVC Student Art Exhibit opened at Imperial Valley College's Juanita Lowe Art Gallery on May 6, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a diverse range of student works including sculptures, videos, paintings, mixed media, and photography. Notable pieces include Catalina Gonsalez's acrylic series "Fire-Fuego," "Wind-Viento," "Water-Agua," and "Earth-Tierra," Stephanie Carrillo's watercolor of Salvador Dali, Kimberly Rodriguez's "Fragile Dancer," and Alejandro Mendez's "Self Portrait." Artist Daniel Barrera Jr. showcased Renaissance-inspired drawings, and author Cuauhtemoc (Chucky) Cortez presented his children's book "Joaquiner Stinker" with illustrations by Jesus Felix.

Young Lawrence artists of Hang12 unveil 32 new pieces of art celebrating Kansas

The Lawrence Art Center's Hang12 program, a group of high school students who curate art shows and events, unveiled 32 new pieces of art in the New Hampshire Street parking garage in Lawrence, Kansas. The artworks, designed by Lawrence High School juniors Wren Jay and Rilo Scholz, celebrate native Kansas plants and animals and were collectively painted and assembled by Hang12 members. A ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from multidisciplinary artist Mona Cliff, who completed a mural in the same garage in 2025, and a tour of the new works.

New Exhibits open today at the African Art Museum

The Savannah African Art Museum is opening two new exhibitions today, April 30, 2026, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The new exhibits include a permanent gallery featuring artwork from West and Central Africa that explores the connections between agriculture, spirituality, and daily life. Museum representative Alisa Evans-Newsome highlighted that the exhibit shares agricultural and spiritual practices from the West African interior, emphasizing agriculture as a vital link to the land and ancestors.

Art in the Berkshires Opens Gallery, Creative Studio

Art in the Berkshires, an online hub for visual arts in Berkshire County, is opening its first physical gallery and creative studio at 8 Castle Street in downtown Great Barrington, Massachusetts this spring. The space will showcase regional artists, artisans, and makers, featuring fine art, functional art, and curated artisanal goods, while also hosting workshops, artist talks, demonstrations, readings, and performances. The inaugural exhibition, "The Berkshires Now," includes work from over thirty Berkshire-based and regional artists across disciplines such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, glass, and functional objects. A grand opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from 4–6 PM, preceded by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:45 PM.
