Summer Exhibitions Coming to West Texas & the Panhandle

Art galleries and institutions across West Texas and the Panhandle have announced their summer exhibition schedules. Highlights include the El Paso Museum of Art's "From the Collection: Portraiture, 1903-2021," featuring works by César Martínez, Edward Curtis, and Andy Warhol; Ballroom Marfa's solo show "Raven Halfmoon: Flags of Our Mothers" with colossal stoneware sculptures; and The Grace Museum in Abilene's "Memory Painters: The Art of Memories," showcasing Texas intuitive painters. Other venues include the Rubin Center for the Visual Arts, the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts in Lubbock, and the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, with exhibitions spanning portraiture, student art, memory painting, and immersive installations.

Terry and Jo Harvey Allen, a multidisciplinary artist couple now in their 80s, have donated their entire archive to Texas Tech University. The collection includes countless paintings, scripts, hundreds of audio tapes recorded with collaborators like David Byrne and Steve Earle, and personal letters exchanged over decades. The couple, who met at a dance in Lubbock, Texas, over 70 years ago, continue to live and work in a rambling adobe home in Santa Fe, surrounded by their art and memories.

Art Department announces spring 2026 exhibitions, True Inspiration Artist in Residence

Furman University's Department of Art has announced its spring 2026 exhibition schedule at the Thompson Art Gallery, featuring three shows: Jessica Lambert's "Sportsball" (Jan. 12-Feb. 13), Alexa Wheeler's "ToastLab" (Feb. 19-March 27), and the 2026 Senior Thesis Exhibition. Wheeler will also serve as the spring 2026 True Inspiration Artist in Residence, working in an open studio and collaborating with university departments and the Greenville community. All events are free and open to the public.

Throughline Announces Artists Selected for “Future Forward” Exhibition

Throughline Collective in Houston has announced the 15 artists selected for "Future Forward," a group exhibition featuring graduate and undergraduate art students from across Texas. Guest curated by Madi Murphy, Associate Curator of FotoFest, the show opens with a public reception on August 8, 2025, at Throughline Gallery and runs through August 30. Selected artists include students from universities in Denton, Houston, Lubbock, and San Antonio, working in painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and textile-based art.
