Lewis Carroll's personal copy of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' from the original 1865 run has been acquired by Oxford's Christ Church college and the Bodleian Libraries. The rare volume, donated by American philanthropist and bibliophile Ellen Michelson, contains the author's handwritten notes, sketched plans for a future nursery edition, and 10 original pencil sketches by John Tenniel used for the wood engravings. The book had never before been exhibited in the United Kingdom.

Tirzah Garwood's archive of work worth £30,0000 to be sold at auction

Cheffins auction house in Cambridge, UK, will sell the first archive of work by artist Tirzah Garwood to come to the market, in its Art & Design Sale on 22 May. The archive, estimated to fetch around £30,000, includes wood engravings, pencil sketches, and a sketchbook, and has been consigned by the granddaughter of artist Frederick Austin, a friend of Garwood and her husband Eric Ravilious. The sale coincides with the first major retrospective of Garwood's work, "Tirzah Garwood: Beyond Ravilious" at Dulwich Picture Gallery, which has helped revive interest in her career.

Linlithgow artist return home for summer exhibition

Artist Leo du Feu, a former Lowport Primary and Linlithgow Academy pupil, returns to his hometown for his largest solo exhibition to date, titled "Homecoming," at the Gallery at Linlithgow Burgh Halls. Running from 22 May to 17 September 2026, the show traces the evolution of his work across themes of nature, landscape, wildlife, storytelling, fatherhood, and emotional well-being, featuring large canvases, miniature wood engravings, and paintings created en plein air. The exhibition also marks the 15th anniversary of the gallery's opening in April 2011.

Prestigious Society of Wood Engravers Exhibition Comes to Kirkby Gallery

The Society of Wood Engravers 87th Annual Exhibition has opened at Kirkby Gallery in Kirkby, England, running until 15 August 2025.
