Yoko Ono finally gets a solo show in Southern California

Yoko Ono finally receives her first solo exhibition in Southern California with "Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind" opening May 23, 2026 at the Broad museum in Los Angeles. The retrospective spans seven decades of her work as a conceptual artist, peace activist, and musician, featuring instructional pieces like "Painting to Hammer a Nail" (1961/1966), her famous 1964 book "Grapefruit," and a video of her iconic performance "Cut Piece." The exhibition, organized in collaboration with Tate Modern, also includes participatory elements such as "Wish Trees for Los Angeles" (1996/2026) and a series of peace-themed billboards, running through October 11, 2026.

Malibu’s downtown park will become an art gallery this summer

Malibu’s downtown Legacy Park will transform into an open-air art gallery this summer through a series of free monthly Art Walk events. Organized by the Malibu Arts Association and hosted by the City of Malibu Arts Commission, the pop-up market runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on five Sundays (May 17, June 14, July 12, Aug. 9, and Sept. 13), featuring local artists selling original works including oil paintings, watercolors, photography, sculpture, and prints inspired by the seaside city. Some proceeds benefit local high school students.

LACMA to inaugurate David Geffen Galleries with gala

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is set to inaugurate its long-awaited David Geffen Galleries with a gala and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Peter Zumthor, the 900-foot-long horizontal structure spans Wilshire Boulevard and features a single-level exhibition space elevated 30 feet above the ground.
