Meet the artists representing Hong Kong and Macao at the Venice Biennale

Hong Kong artists Angel Hui and Kingsley Ng, along with Macao artists Eric Fok Hoi Seng, Veronica Lei Fong Ieng, and O Chi Wai, will represent the Greater Bay Area at the 61st Venice Biennale, running from 9 May to 22 November 2026. Hong Kong's exhibition, titled 'Fermata: Hong Kong in Venice,' marks a shift from a solo to a duo format for the first time, co-organized and curated by the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA). Hui presents installations featuring embroidered plastic bags and aluminum window grilles inspired by local Hong Kong motifs, while Ng creates site-specific works referencing hanging laundry. Macao's showcase, 'Jacone's Polyphony,' features the three Macao artists. The biennale, curated by the late Koyo Kouoh, is themed 'In Minor Keys' and includes 110 artists, 100 national participations, and 31 collateral events.

Chinese art curator and critic Feng Boyi has been appointed chief curator of Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025, as announced by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC). The biennale opens on 19 July and runs for three months, featuring six sections including the Main Exhibition, Public Art Exhibition, and City Pavilion. Participating artists include Xu Bing, Ann Hamilton, Gregor Schneider, Bart Hess, and Kasia Molga, with the theme “Hey, what brings you here?”

Mandarin Oriental, Macau marks 15th anniversary with new art exhibition

Mandarin Oriental, Macau launched a new contemporary Chinese art exhibition titled "Modern Vision, Timeless Technique" to mark its 15th anniversary at its current location. The exhibition, running until 31 August in the hotel's lobby and Lobby Lounge, features 15 works by local female artists Leong Kit Man and Tsang Tseng Tseng. Curated by Alice Kok, president of the Art For All Society (AFA), the show highlights how the artists blend traditional Chinese painting techniques with modern aesthetics. VIPs including government officials and cultural figures attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the hotel's executive chef created canapés inspired by the artworks.
