Two New Orleans artists are showing at the Venice Biennale. The art world has taken notice.
Two New Orleans artists, Big Chief Demond Melancon and Dawn DeDeaux, are featured in the central group show of the 2025 Venice Biennale, one of the most prestigious events in the contemporary art world. Melancon opened the Biennale with a performance titled "Blessing the Ancestors," wearing a plumed and sequined suit alongside members of the Young Seminole Hunters, while DeDeaux presents new and reimagined works in the final room of the historic venue, including a meteor installation and a piece incorporating burned timber fragments.
