Curators Talk about “In Company” Exhibit at Ucross

The Ucross Art Gallery in Wyoming has opened a new exhibition titled “In Company,” which pairs seven former Ucross Visual Artist Fellows with artists who have inspired them. Co-curated by Tawni Shuler, Lacasa Michelena, and Brittney Denham-Whisonant, the show features 14 artists working across painting, photography, sculpture, installation, literature, music, and film. The exhibition highlights the creative relationships and subtle influences that shape artistic practice, with each fellow selecting three influences before the curators chose one for the pairing. Featured artists include Lars Jan with Richard Misrach, Tracy Linder with Deborah Butterfield, Katie Merz with Charley Friedman, and others. The exhibit is free and open to the public through December 18.

Chamber Celebrates Opening of Ballard’s Fine Art Gallery

The Sheridan Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of Ballard’s Fine Art Gallery at its new location on South Main Street in Sheridan, Wyoming, with an Ambassadors’ ribbon cutting ceremony on June 27, 2024. The gallery, owned by Kim Lassiter, represents over 40 artists and features original paintings and bronze works from across the United States. A grand opening celebration is scheduled for July 5, 2024.

Ucross Unveils Latest Exhibition “In Company”

Ucross, the acclaimed residency program in Wyoming, announced its latest exhibition "In Company" at the Ucross Art Gallery, which opened on May 30 during Founder's Day. The exhibition pairs seven former artists-in-residence with seven artists who have influenced their creative practice, featuring works across painting, photography, sculpture, installation, literature, music, and film. Featured Ucross Fellows include Lars Jan, Tracy Linder, Katie Merz, Nathalie Miebach, Kristen Schiele, Tip Toland, and Sarah Williams, while invited constellation artists include Richard Misrach, Deborah Butterfield, Charley Friedman, Steve Reich, Emily Noelle Lambert, Richard Notkin, and Matt Bollinger. The show was co-curated by Program Director Tawni Shuler, Gallery Associate Lacasa Michelena, and Gallery Advisor Brittney Denham-Whisonant.

Reception for Resilience Exhibit

The Ucross Art Gallery hosted an artists’ reception for its latest exhibition, "Resilience," which showcases the work of the 2025 Ucross Fellowship for Native American Artists recipients. Curated by Marwin Begaye, the show features a diverse range of media including sculpture by Gina Herrera, mixed-media works by Wade Patton, and visual and performance art by Sarah Ortegon HighWalking, alongside photography and poetry by writer Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle. The event was highlighted by a collaborative performance involving the Jingle Dress Dance and live woodblock printing.
