Seafront gallery hosts major exhibition of local artists

The Fishing Quarter Gallery on Brighton seafront hosted the Bright On Open Call Exhibition, featuring works by 65 local artists. Curated by seascape painter Emma Christopherson, the exhibition presented a visual tour of Brighton from the sea through the city to the South Downs, including seascapes, portraits, and landscapes. Most works were available for purchase, and visitors could meet the artists. This is the second year Christopherson has organized the event, with plans to continue next year.

Monica Long’s art captures beauty of daily life in new exhibition

A new exhibition titled "Local Life: A Retrospective" is on display at the Sussex Emmaus community in Portslade, featuring the work of Sussex artist Monica Long. The two-week show, running from February 10 to February 21, presents 29 paintings donated by Long's daughter Jacqueline, capturing everyday scenes from memory and small sketches made in cafés, on buses, and at concerts.

New art collective launches with exhibition exploring life with cancer

A new art collective called Sussex Cancer Art and Research (S.C.A.R.) launches with an exhibition titled "Drawn Out: Lines Beyond the Limen" at Dorset Place Gallery in Brighton. Curated by University of Brighton graduate Markus Taylor, who was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia in 2021, the show features works by local artists living with or affected by cancer. Taylor incorporates his own cancerous blood as a medium in one piece, symbolizing his diagnosis and the emotional realities of the disease.

Exhibition series launched to celebrate Sussex artistic talent

Hastings Contemporary has launched Sussex Spotlight, a new exhibition series celebrating artists with connections to the Sussex region. The inaugural show, running from November 19, 2025, to January 18, 2026, features St Leonards-based painter Alessandro Raho, known for his refined portraits and still-life works. The series is free to attend and supported by David and Sarah Kowitz.

Popular Bottle Alley Art Market to return bigger than ever before

The Bottle Alley Art Market (BAAM) returns for its third year on August 23, transforming the 480-meter seafront walkway between Hastings and St Leonards into the UK's longest beachside art market. Featuring 70 artists from local talents to national figures, the free event includes live portrait sessions by Xinchu Zhang, performances by Jude Montague and Caroline Gregory, DJ sets from Simon and the Pope, and a fabric installation by Mew Welch, David Harris, and Zeroh. Organised by Zeroh, Daniel Hardiker, and Neil Hetherington, the market runs from 10am to 6pm on the bank holiday weekend.

Landmark store transformed into art gallery

Kellie Miller Art (KMA) gallery has opened a new location in Brighton's Church Street, taking over the former Dockerills hardware store. The two-floor space, which doubles the gallery's previous size, was inaugurated with a packed opening event on Friday evening, featuring paintings, ceramics, and sculptures from over 100 local, national, and international artists. The gallery is run by artist and curator Kellie Miller, who has over 30 years of industry experience.
