A new art gallery in northeast Oklahoma City will focus on showcasing Black Seminole art, highlighting the cultural heritage of the Black Seminole community. The gallery aims to feature works that explore the history and experiences of Black Seminoles, including their settlement in areas like Sandtown, Oklahoma’s first Black settlement, where families built homes from scrap materials in the 1940s and 1950s.
Wayne Coyne, frontman of the Flaming Lips and a multidisciplinary artist from Oklahoma City, will present the first retrospective of his visual arts career in his hometown next year. The Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) has opened a major exhibition of works by the celebrated American painter Wayne Thiebaud. The show, titled "Wayne Thiebaud: The Artist's Perspective," features over 70 paintings and drawings spanning his career, including his iconic depictions of pies, cakes, and San Francisco cityscapes.
The 53rd annual Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition & Sale is on view through August 3, 2025, at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The show features more than 270 original paintings and sculptures by over 90 leading Western artists, including works by Thomas Blackshear II, John Coleman, Dan Friday, Teresa Elliott, Dan Ostermiller, Joshua Tobey, and Paul Moore.
