Art Basel Hong Kong 2026: Where The World Comes To See

Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 returned to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 25–27, featuring 240 galleries from 42 countries and territories. The 13th edition introduced new sectors including Echoes, dedicated to works made within the past five years, and Zero 10, a digital art initiative making its Asia debut. The fair also transformed its Encounters sector with a collective curatorial framework based on the Five Elements, led by Mami Kataoka and three other Asia-based curators. Record sales and a tax break close out blockbuster year for South Asian Modern market

Two record-breaking auctions closed a blockbuster year for the South Asian Modern art market. On 27 September, Saffronart in New Delhi sold 85 lots for $40.2 million—the largest single sale ever in South Asia—while on 29 September, Sotheby’s in New York sold 54 lots for $25.5 million, a record total for South Asian art in the West. These followed Christie’s March sale of M.F. Husain’s mural *Gram Yatra* (1954) for $13.7 million, the highest price ever for an Indian painting. India also enacted a major tax reform, cutting the Goods and Service Tax (GST) on art from 12% to 5%, further stimulating the market.

Emerging 18-year-old Indian artist Prithveer Jain is presenting his second solo exhibition, “Circus: The Late Arrival,” at IF.BE in Mumbai from July 31 to August 3, 2025. The show features paintings that blend portraiture with emotional cartography, exploring themes of identity, selfhood, and psychological delay through stylized, surreal figures and symbolic imagery such as ropes, curtains, and hats.
