New show Art Spectrum opens door for San Diego’s LGBTQ+ artists in Balboa Park

Art Spectrum, a new exhibition in Balboa Park’s Village to Gallery 21, showcases the work of twelve professional San Diego LGBTQ+ artists throughout May. Curated by painter RD Riccoboni and produced by gallerist Patric Stillman, the show was initiated by the Village Arts and Education Foundation, which lacked community connections to organize an LGBTQ+ exhibition. The selected artists, including Carole Kuck, Miguel Camacho-Padilla, and Stefan Talian, are mature professionals whose practices span painting, pottery, and stained glass.

New MCASD exhibit of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys' personal collection showcases Black art

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) has launched "Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys," a major traveling exhibition showcasing the couple's extensive collection of Black diasporic art. The show features monumental works from 37 artists, including a 164-foot painting by Meleko Mokgosi and an 8,000-pound sculpture by Arthur Jafa that required structural reinforcement of the museum floor. To create a more inclusive atmosphere, the exhibition replaces traditional white gallery walls with bold colors and includes a curated musical playlist by Swizz Beatz.

Arts District Liberty Station unveils immersive open-air gallery and new public art installations

Arts District Liberty Station in San Diego has launched a new Open-Air Gallery, a self-guided tour featuring murals, sculptures, and public art installations. The tour is available in English and Spanish, with an interactive online StoryMap providing behind-the-scenes content. The organization also announced two local artists, Mischka Ippólita and Beliz Iristay, for its 2025 Installations at the Station program, which commissions site-specific works celebrating the San Diego-Baja region.
