The Richest Woman in the World Has Done It Again With Her Art Museum—in the Middle of Arkansas
Alice Walton, the Walmart heir and art collector, opened a massive expansion of her Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, Arkansas, on June 2, 2026. The gala attracted high-profile guests including President Bill Clinton, Secretary Hillary Clinton, Arianna Huffington, and Martha Stewart, with Secret Service present due to the Waltons' prominence. The expansion, designed by architect Moshe Safdie, adds new exhibition wings featuring a Keith Haring sculpture show and a contemporary art gallery with works by Mark Rothko, Julie Mehretu, Donald Judd, Amy Sherald, Cecily Brown, and Hank Willis Thomas. Crystal Bridges, which opened in 2011, houses masterpieces by Jackson Pollock, Norman Rockwell, Kerry James Marshall, and Asher Brown Durand's 'Kindred Spirits,' among others.
