David Zwirner Books has released a new monograph titled *William Eggleston: The Last Dyes* (2025), dedicated to the final major body of photographs by pioneering American color photographer William Eggleston using the now-discontinued dye-transfer printing process. A solo exhibition of these images will open at David Zwirner gallery in New York on January 15, 2026, following a presentation at the gallery’s Los Angeles location earlier this year. The book includes a newly commissioned essay by critic Jeffrey Kastner.

This publication and exhibition matter because they mark the culmination of Eggleston’s use of dye-transfer printing, a technically demanding process that Kodak discontinued in the early 1990s and which was central to his revolutionary role in elevating color photography from a commercial tool to a recognized fine art medium. Eggleston’s 1976 solo show at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, was a watershed moment for photography, and this final body of dye-transfer works serves as a historic capstone to a career that fundamentally reshaped the medium.
