Cardiff care home raises £2,000 through botanical beauty art exhibition

Llys Cyncoed, a care home in Cardiff, hosted a botanical art exhibition featuring works by resident and award-winning artist Vivien Burgess. The event, launched on October 3 with a champagne reception, displayed 28 original pieces in the home’s library and raised over £2,000 through sales. Proceeds will be donated to three charities chosen by Burgess: Velindre Cancer Centre, Salvation Army and UNICEF, and Children in Gaza. The exhibition runs through the end of October.

This story matters because it highlights how care homes can foster creative expression and community engagement among elderly residents, while also supporting charitable causes. Vivien Burgess’s career—from pressed-flower collages sold at Liberty London to award-winning botanical paintings—demonstrates that artistic achievement can continue well into later life. The event also underscores the role of local art exhibitions in building social connections and raising funds for global humanitarian needs.
