Everyone’s a winner, baby: prizes abound during Frieze London

During Frieze London, multiple acquisition prizes and awards were announced, including the Tate Frieze Fund, which purchased works by Lubna Chowdhary and Barbara Walker for Tate's collection. The inaugural Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation Prize was awarded to Alex Margo Arden, while the Arts Council Frieze Acquisitions Fund, Contemporary Art Society's Collections Fund, and Camden Art Centre Emerging Artist Prize also made selections. Offsite, the Circa 2025 prize went to Adham Faramawy for a film addressing the migration crisis.

These proliferating prizes matter because they provide crucial institutional acquisition funding at a time when public arts funding is dwindling, enabling museums to collect works by mid-career and emerging artists. The awards also highlight efforts to support diverse practices and challenge commercialization within the art fair context, while offering significant financial support and exhibition opportunities to artists.
