Visual artist Ana Teofilo has opened a new gallery and studio on Prince Albert Rd in South Dunedin, New Zealand, fulfilling a longtime dream. The space, which bears her name, features her own works including a favorite piece titled *Lanu Musika* ("colour music"), a 72-panel installation created during her art school years that had been in storage. Teofilo plans to host carving workshops and hopes the gallery will raise awareness of Pasifika creatives.
The opening matters because it represents a grassroots investment in local art infrastructure, particularly in South Dunedin where Teofilo grew up. By creating a dedicated space for her practice and community workshops, she is fostering visibility for Pacific Islander artists and providing a model for other creatives to promote and sell their work outside major urban centers.
