Solange has launched the Saint Heron Community Library, a new initiative making rare and out-of-print art books available to the public for free borrowing. The digital library, run through her Saint Heron platform, includes exhibition catalogs for artists such as Barbara Chase-Riboud, Henry Ossawa Tanner, Martin Puryear, Gary Simmons, and Pope.L, as well as texts like Cedric Dover's 1960 book *American Negro Art*. Books are loaned for 45 days, though most are already checked out. The collection also features works by Black thinkers and writers including Audre Lorde, Ntozake Shange, Octavia Butler, and Wanda Coleman.
This initiative matters because it expands access to culturally significant Black and Brown literary and artistic works, many of which are rare and typically only available for on-site viewing at institutions like the New York Public Library. By shipping books directly to borrowers, Solange is democratizing access to art historical materials and furthering her engagement with the art world, which has included collaborations with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Hammer Museum. The library underscores a growing trend of artists and musicians using their platforms to support education and creative inspiration.
