Julia Chiang has unveiled a new public exhibition titled "This Way That Way, Here" at Rockefeller Center, presented by Art Production Fund as part of the Art in Focus series. The show features her atmospheric paintings and ceramic sculptures across multiple locations, including glass cases with glazed vessels inside 45 Rockefeller Plaza, a diorama-like window at 10 Rockefeller Plaza, and large-scale murals throughout the campus, including a 125-foot mural on the Rink Level. The exhibition, on view through the end of October, also incorporates works from a community art workshop for children called Art Sundae.
This exhibition matters because it brings Chiang's meditative, body-inspired artwork—which explores parallels between human and natural processes—into a highly trafficked public space, making contemporary art accessible to millions of daily commuters and visitors. It also highlights the growing trend of institutional partnerships for public art, as Art Production Fund continues to commission site-specific installations that foster moments of pause and connection in urban environments. Chiang's inclusion of community engagement, such as the children's workshop and her previous public mural projects, underscores a broader shift toward participatory and socially engaged public art practices.
