Free exhibition showcases diversity

A free exhibition titled 'Diversity' has opened at Stamford Arts Centre gallery in St Mary’s Street, running until August 30. Organized by Stamford Diversity Group, the show features a wide range of work including art by HMP Stocken inmates, photographs by Ukrainian artist Oleksii Klitovchenko, paintings by Marina Stognieva, sketches by Ella, dresses by a local Afghan family, a neurodivergency awareness journal, and zines supporting the trans community, alongside poetry and photographic portraits from the group's previous projects.

The exhibition matters because it highlights the role of community-led art initiatives in promoting inclusion and representation for marginalized groups. By bringing together diverse creators—from prisoners and refugees to neurodivergent individuals and LGBTQ+ allies—the show demonstrates how local arts venues can serve as platforms for social cohesion and dialogue, challenging stigma and celebrating underrepresented voices in a small-town setting.
