Opening date announced for major Birmingham attraction

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery will reopen its history galleries to the public on Friday, May 2, 2025, after a five-year closure that began during the pandemic. The 850-square-meter refurbished exhibition chronicles Birmingham's history from medieval times to the present day, featuring unique objects and installations. The phased reopening of the museum began in October 2024, and the history galleries were developed with support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The reopening marks a significant milestone in the museum's phased restoration, doubling the gallery spaces accessible to the public since October. It allows the institution to share more of Birmingham's rich history and multi-faceted stories with visitors, while continuing preservation work to secure the venue for future generations. The free admission and expanded access underscore the museum's role as a key cultural and educational resource for the city.
