This initiative is a critical step in rectifying the historical record for one of the most significant African American sculptors of the 20th century. By formalizing his extensive exhibition history at major institutions like MoMA and the Whitney, the foundation provides the scholarly framework necessary to cement Hunt’s legacy in the canon of American art.
