Toledo muralist Chris "Chili" Rodriguez is opening the Mind and Soul Gallery & Studios in the historic Gardner Building on Madison Avenue. The grand opening on Saturday, May 16 will feature artwork from over 40 local and nationally known artists, live music, food trucks, raffles, and a scavenger hunt, with an after-party running until 1 a.m. Rodriguez and his team spent six months renovating the 6,000-square-foot space.
The opening matters because it revitalizes a historic downtown building that was nearly demolished in the 1980s, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Rodriguez, known for his vibrant murals across Toledo, is expanding the city's visual arts scene by creating a dedicated gallery and studio space that brings together a wide range of artists and community activities, supporting local cultural and economic development.
