Sacramento City College's Kondos Gallery has opened its spring faculty exhibition, “The Other Half; SCC Art Faculty,” featuring works by five full-time art professors in painting, printmaking, mixed media, ceramics, and sculpture. A reception was held on April 30, 2026, attended by librarian Antonio López and others. The gallery, originally opened in the 1930s, was renamed after noted California artist Gregory Kondos, who served as its director in the mid-1970s until his retirement in 1982.
The exhibition is part of the Art Department's effort to engage students with their teachers' creative work, bridging classroom learning and professional practice. Gallery lead Denise Benitas is developing new ways for students to interact deeply with the art, while department chair Terry Peterson emphasizes the gallery's role alongside the college's permanent art collection. The show runs through May 21 and is free and open to the public, underscoring the importance of community college art programs in fostering local arts engagement.
