M+ in Hong Kong and the Centre Pompidou in Paris have announced a new five-year partnership beginning next year. The agreement, announced at M+ on May 15, includes lending artworks for exhibitions, collaborative research and commissions, curator exchanges, and a four-year postdoctoral fellowship. A major exhibition focusing on visual culture in France and Greater China will debut at the Pompidou when it reopens in 2029 or 2030, then travel to M+.
This partnership is significant because it pairs a young, ambitious museum—M+ opened in 2021—with one of the world's most influential modern art institutions, the Centre Pompidou, which is currently closed for renovation. M+ director Suhanya Raffel described the Pompidou as a "museum mentor" and an "equal partner," underscoring how this collaboration elevates M+'s international standing and fosters cross-cultural dialogue between Western and Asian art worlds.
