Deep dive into the unknown at GRPM’s new ocean exhibition

The Grand Rapids Public Museum (GRPM) will host "Unseen Oceans," a traveling exhibition from the American Museum of Natural History, from June 20 through January 2, 2027. The immersive exhibition showcases the latest breakthroughs in ocean science, featuring robotics, satellite monitoring, and high-definition imaging, along with larger-than-life models, fossils, and a 180-degree screen with life-size animations of marine creatures. It was curated by marine scientist John Sparks and includes interactive digital experiences and a submersible theater.

This exhibition matters because it brings cutting-edge ocean research to a landlocked community, highlighting how ocean science impacts everyone. It makes complex marine science accessible through immersive technology and hands-on exhibits, potentially inspiring visitors to engage with environmental and scientific issues. The partnership between GRPM and the American Museum of Natural History also underscores the role of museums in bridging scientific discovery and public education.
