Yoko Ono’s Sky Piece to Jesus Christ + Cut Piece (Sold Out)

The Broad and REDCAT in Los Angeles will present two stagings of Yoko Ono's iconic performances, 'Sky Piece to Jesus Christ' and 'Cut Piece,' on July 18 and 19, 2026, in conjunction with The Broad's special exhibition 'Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind.' 'Sky Piece to Jesus Christ,' performed by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, involves a classical music ensemble being slowly wrapped in gauze until they can no longer play, a work first presented by Ono at Carnegie Recital Hall in 1965. 'Cut Piece,' performed by artist MPA, invites the audience to cut pieces of the artist's clothing, a piece first debuted by Ono in Kyoto in 1964 and considered her best-known performance work.

These performances matter because they revive two seminal works by Yoko Ono that explore themes of interruption, inspiration, power, violence, and objectification, offering contemporary audiences a rare opportunity to experience her influential conceptual and performance art live. The event underscores the ongoing relevance of Ono's practice and The Broad's commitment to presenting groundbreaking performance art within the context of a major museum exhibition dedicated to her career.
