Drawing a crowd: Art Crawl, reception featured Saturday

Salisbury's downtown Art Crawl returns on May 30 from 5-7 p.m., featuring local art, artist demonstrations, exhibitions, music, and workshops at multiple locations. The event, spearheaded by Rachel Gunsch of Pottery 101, has grown to include over a dozen participating businesses such as Rowan Arts Council, Shug's, Fine Frame Gallery, and South Main Book Company. Pottery 101 will also host an Artist of the Month opening reception for potter Andy Smith. The crawl is now a monthly event held on the last Saturday, supported by the Downtown Salisbury Special Events Grant.

This event matters because it strengthens the local arts ecosystem by connecting artists with businesses and the community, fostering economic vitality for downtown Salisbury. The collaboration between the Rowan Arts Council and local entrepreneurs demonstrates a sustainable model for grassroots arts programming that can be replicated in other small cities. The monthly format builds consistent audience engagement and provides regular exposure for local artists, helping to cultivate a vibrant cultural identity beyond major metropolitan art scenes.
