Onnis Luque: DOMINIO Opening

Architectural photographer Onnis Luque presents "DOMINIO: An Unfinished Visual Archive of Architectural Extractivism" at the Newmark Gallery at Art Omi, opening March 21, 2026. The exhibition traces the origins of construction materials—sand, stone, and earth—back to Mexico's extractive landscapes, documenting the aftermath of mining and quarrying across regions including the Mezquital Valley, Chiapas, and the Yucatán Peninsula.

The exhibition matters because it challenges architecture's idealized visual culture by exposing the socio-ecological violence hidden in material extraction. Luque's photographs question photography's complicity in sustaining architectural myths and provoke viewers to reconsider the true cost of the built environment, linking modernist and colonial ideologies to environmental degradation.
