L’astrazione pittorica come forma di libertà. Le due mostre di François Reboul a Venezia
Art Events, an Italian cultural organization active for over a decade between Milan and Venice, is presenting two concurrent exhibitions of French artist François Reboul in Venice during the 61st International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. Titled "Beyond Chaos" and "From Chaos to Freedom," the shows are hosted at Spazio SV (until August 15, 2026) and at Reboul's Atelier in Cannaregio (from August 28 to November 22, 2026). Curated by Vittoria Brachi, "Beyond Chaos" features forty paintings with rough surfaces that oscillate between abstraction and figuration, revealing the artist's process through visible brushwork and chiaroscuro tension.
These exhibitions matter because they offer a focused exploration of abstract expressionism reimagined through a contemporary French lens, emphasizing painting as a dynamic field of forces rather than a purely formal exercise. Reboul's work, which he describes as "a form of freedom," challenges viewers to engage with images at the edge of dissolution, where bodies emerge and dissolve into color. The shows also highlight Art Events' role in activating Venice's cultural scene during the prestigious Biennale period, contributing to the city's broader dialogue on abstraction and process-based art.
