A community art exhibition honoring late designer and artist Vickie Almquist will take place on Nov. 7 at the Sage Pavilion in Bergen. Almquist, a Bergen native who built a career in fashion and graphic design in New York City over nearly four decades, passed away in August 2025 after a battle with cancer. A committee of friends and local artists organized the show to fulfill her long-held dream of a local art exhibition. The open call invites artists of all ages and skill levels to submit up to three pieces, with an application deadline of Aug. 31.
This exhibition matters because it transforms a personal, unrealized dream into a community-driven tribute, celebrating Almquist's creative legacy and her deep ties to Bergen. It also provides a platform for local artists of all backgrounds to showcase their work, fostering community engagement and connection through the arts. The event underscores how art can serve as a vehicle for remembrance and collective participation in small towns.
