This Artist Just Gave a Hermès Store Window a Whimsical Makeover

Brooklyn-based painter and sculptor Jeremy Olson has created a whimsical window installation for Hermès at its Madison Avenue flagship store, as part of the brand's annual Vitrine d'artiste program. The display features a yellow horse protagonist interacting with Hermès products in a dreamlike retro interior, blending Olson's signature hyperrealist style with the luxury brand's aesthetic. Olson produced the painting and light fixtures himself, while the character and furniture were fabricated by Hermès's longtime collaborators, TwoSeven, based on his 3D models and renderings.

This collaboration matters because it continues Hermès's eight-decade tradition of commissioning artists for its store windows, bridging the gap between high-end retail and contemporary art. For Olson, it marks his first public art project and an opportunity to explore themes of desire and fantasy within a luxury context. The installation also highlights how brands increasingly turn to visual artists to create immersive, narrative-driven retail experiences that blur the line between commerce and art.
