The Miller Art Museum is launching a new contemporary exhibition series called the 12x12 Project, starting June 1 with a solo show featuring Wisconsin artist Adam Fulwiler. The exhibition, titled "Adam Fulwiler | 12x12 Project," will run through June 30 and includes abstract paintings and industrial-inspired works that explore themes of communication, perception, and human connection, influenced by Fulwiler's relationship with his brother who has autism. Fulwiler, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and the University of Arkansas, currently serves as executive director of the Hardy Gallery in Ephraim and will give an artist talk on June 13.
This initiative matters because it establishes a dedicated platform for highlighting contemporary artists from Wisconsin and the broader Midwest, a region often underrepresented in major art world programming. By launching an invitational series focused on regional talent, the Miller Art Museum strengthens local arts infrastructure and provides emerging and mid-career artists like Fulwiler with institutional visibility and community engagement opportunities.
