Internationally renowned artist presents new lakeside exhibition in Finnish forest

Internationally acclaimed artist Anish Kapoor will present a new long-term exhibition at the Serlachius Museums in Mänttä, Finland, set in a lakeside forest. Running from 23 May 2026 to April 2027, the show features large-scale paintings, objects coated in Vantablack paint, and a vast new sculpture designed for Serlachius Manor’s main hall. The exhibition focuses on Kapoor’s recent works, contrasting light-absorbing Vantablack pieces with intense red paintings that evoke blood and lava.

The exhibition matters because it brings Kapoor’s globally recognized practice to a distinctive natural setting, emphasizing the interplay between art and environment. It also highlights the Serlachius Museums as a leading Finnish cultural destination, rooted in the private collection of paper industry entrepreneur Gösta Serlachius. The show reinforces Kapoor’s ongoing exploration of materiality and perception, while drawing attention to Finland’s regional art scene, including nearby attractions like the Moomin Museum and Kimmo Pyykkö Art Museum.
