Visual artist Bruno Grilo is set to debut his solo exhibition, “Democratic Sun,” on May 14, 2026, at the Trem–Manuel Baptista Municipal Gallery in Faro. Supported by institutional partners including the University of Algarve and CIAC, the exhibition showcases Grilo’s multidisciplinary approach, which spans sculpture, installation, photography, and drawing. The artist, who holds a PhD from the University of Porto, continues his exploration of socio-political dimensions through an expanded sculptural language.
“Democratic Sun” utilizes the sun as a central, ambivalent symbol to examine themes of power, regulation, and exposure within the specific context of the Algarve region. The collection of works challenges traditional cultural organizations and explores the tensions between territory and identity. By blending landscape and memory with social critique, Grilo invites viewers to reflect on the ambiguity of democratic concepts and the evolving relationship between human and non-human entities.
