El Museo del Barrio’s 2026 annual gala at the Mandarin Oriental New York successfully raised over $1 million to support the institution’s exhibitions, bilingual educational programs, and permanent collection. The event celebrated significant figures in the Latin American and Latine cultural landscape, honoring global music star J Balvin for his cultural advocacy alongside prominent collectors Isabel and Agustín Coppel. Additionally, Estrellita Brodsky was presented with the inaugural Tony Bechara Legacy Award for her decades of institutional advocacy and curation.
A highlight of the evening was the announcement of artist Guadalupe Rosales as the recipient of the 2026-2027 Maestro Dobel Latinx Art Prize, which includes a solo exhibition at the museum next year. Executive Director Patrick Charpenel and Board Chair Karla Harwich emphasized the museum's vital role in providing representation for the city's Hispanic and Latino youth. The event drew a high-profile crowd of artists, curators, and philanthropists, with a benefit auction remaining open to the public through June 2026.
