Swimmer sculptures arrive on Michigan Avenue for the summer

Eight sculptures by artist Carole Feuerman were unveiled on June 2, 2026, along North Michigan Avenue in Chicago as part of an outdoor exhibition titled “Monuments of Stillness.” Presented by Hilton Contemporary Gallery, the life-sized to 12-foot-tall bronze, resin, and stainless steel swimmer figures will remain on view through November 15, with two additional pieces to be added soon. After Chicago, the works are scheduled to travel to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

The installation matters because it brings hyperrealist public art to a major Chicago thoroughfare undergoing revitalization, continuing the city’s tradition of large-scale outdoor art displays like the iconic “Cows on Parade” in 1999. Feuerman, a New York-based artist known for her superrealist swimmers and dancers, has exhibited at the Venice Biennale and during the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, lending international cachet to the local art scene. The exhibition also includes a concurrent indoor sale of her smaller works at Hilton Contemporary’s galleries.
