French artist Jean-Marc Bustamante will open the Fonds Bustamante in Arles on July 9, 2026, during the Rencontres d'Arles photography festival. Housed in the restored 12th-century Église Sainte-Croix, the foundation debuts with the exhibition "En Miroirs," featuring Bustamante's work alongside artists such as Cristina Iglesias, Franz West, and Thomas Schütte. The project, designed with architect Charles Zana, includes exhibition spaces, a research center, and a ceramic frieze by Bustamante.
The foundation formalizes Bustamante's five-decade relationship with Arles and adds to the city's cultural institutions, including LUMA Arles and Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles. Its missions include preserving Bustamante's archive, supporting interdisciplinary exhibitions, and continuing educational programs through masterclasses and public events. Bustamante stated the foundation aims to rethink exhibition models and prioritize artistic freedom, reflecting broader shifts in the contemporary art world.
