South Bend Museum of Art showcases regional talent

The South Bend Museum of Art has opened two exhibitions showcasing regional talent. "Around the Bend 2026," an open-call exhibition running through August 23, features approximately 240 artists from eight counties in Indiana and Michigan, with artworks displayed salon-style. The "Northern Indiana Pastel Society's 20th Anniversary Exhibit," on view through July 12, presents 37 works by 34 pastel society members, juried by Julie Tourtillotte of Saint Mary’s College and Bill Tourtillotte of Indiana University South Bend. A First Friday reception with music, remarks, and community choice awards is scheduled for June 5.

These exhibitions matter because they highlight the vitality of regional art communities and provide a platform for local artists to gain visibility. The Northern Indiana Pastel Society's anniversary exhibit underscores the enduring value of specialized art organizations, particularly as the only active pastel society in Indiana. By featuring hundreds of artists from multiple counties and offering free admission, the museum strengthens community engagement and supports the regional creative economy.
