Springfield Museum of Art's Juried Members' Exhibition marks 80th year

The Springfield Museum of Art (SMoA) will open its 80th Annual Juried Members’ Exhibition on Friday, June 5, featuring around 110 works in a wide range of mediums, from traditional painting and ceramics to digital art, machine embroidery, and mixed-media pieces incorporating carved beef bone and lottery tickets. The exhibition, which predates the museum building itself, includes an opening reception and will run through August 27. Guest juror Cat Sheridan, director of the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery, selected the works and praised the breadth of submissions from both emerging and established artists.

This milestone marks eight decades of a community-driven exhibition that was foundational in bringing together artists, collectors, and visionaries who eventually led to the founding of the Springfield Museum of Art. The show underscores the museum’s role as a hub for local artistic expression and community connection, highlighting the diversity of mediums and perspectives in contemporary art. As a longstanding tradition, it demonstrates how regional art institutions sustain creative dialogue across generations and reflect the evolving nature of artistic practice.
