The Portland Museum of Art (PMA) has finalized a $14 million acquisition of a downtown building and two adjacent parking lots from MaineHealth. Located on Free Street next to the museum's current campus, the facility will house administrative offices, allowing the museum to convert existing office space into new public galleries.
This real estate expansion is a critical component of the PMA’s broader $100 million growth strategy, which includes a massive new wing designed by LEVER Architecture. By securing neighboring properties, the museum is consolidating its footprint in Portland’s Arts District to accommodate a growing collection and increasing visitor demand for accessible cultural spaces.
