LHUCA in Lubbock Launches Open Call for 2027-2028 Exhibition Proposals

The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts (LHUCA) in Lubbock, Texas, has opened its annual call for exhibition proposals for the 2027-2028 season. Curators, artist groups, and individual artists are invited to submit proposals for group or solo exhibitions across all media, to be held in LHUCA's four galleries: the Helen Devitt Jones Studio Gallery, the John F. Lott Gallery, the Christine DeVitt Exhibition Hall, and the Martin McDonal Hall. The deadline for submissions is September 13, with selected exhibitions running for two-month periods and reaching an audience of 5,000 attendees each, including during the popular downtown Lubbock First Friday Art Trails.

This open call matters because it provides a significant platform for emerging and established artists and curators to present their work in a well-established regional arts center, with guaranteed visibility and audience engagement. By encouraging proposals tailored to specific gallery spaces, LHUCA fosters site-responsive exhibitions that can enhance the artistic experience. The call also supports the local and regional art ecosystem, as past exhibitors include artists from Lubbock, Fort Worth, Denver, and Dallas, reinforcing LHUCA's role as a hub for contemporary art in West Texas.
