Arts in Health Ocala Metro (AIHOM) has announced the opening of “Creative Voices: Celebrating AIHOM & The Arc of Marion Artists” at the Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place in Ocala, Florida. Presented by the city of Ocala Cultural Arts Division through the Art in City Spaces Program, the exhibition will run from June 17 to December 17, 2026, with an opening reception on June 17. The show features artwork created by adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who participate in visual art workshops facilitated by AIHOM at The Arc of Marion, a nonprofit that has supported individuals with disabilities since 1959.
This exhibition matters because it challenges traditional notions of who is recognized as an artist, elevating the voices of individuals often marginalized in the art world. By showcasing the creativity and lived experiences of these artists in a public community setting, the project promotes inclusion, creative diversity, and the role of the arts as a vital tool for communication, confidence-building, and well-being. It also highlights the importance of sustained community partnerships between arts nonprofits and disability support organizations.
