Ocean Space, TBA21–Academy's platform for artistic research, presents 'The Many Venices,' a program running from June to September 2026. It features guided walks led by writers, researchers, and cultural practitioners that reveal Venice's hidden migrant histories, connecting the city to Africa, the Middle East, Bangladesh, and contemporary migrant communities. Co-curated with Wetlands, the initiative reimagines the lagoon as a site of cultural exchange and belonging rather than a static monument.
This matters because it challenges dominant narratives of Venice as solely a tourist destination or imperial relic, foregrounding the city's enduring role as a crossroads shaped by migration and collective histories. By using walking as a method of listening, the program offers a timely reflection on mobility, identity, and layered geographies, inviting audiences to engage with the many Venices that have always existed beneath the surface.
