Cumberland Valley photo exhibit explores America at 250

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will host the 2026 Cumberland Valley Photographers Exhibition, opening June 20. The juried show features 39 photographs by 28 artists from Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., organized around the theme of America's 250th birthday. Four award-winning works were recognized, including first place to Kameron Ross for "A Robin's-Egg Blue Trailer Sits Beneath a Northern Catalpa Tree." The opening includes a panel discussion with award-winning photographers and jurors.

This exhibition matters because it uses contemporary photography to explore national identity, community, and history as the United States approaches its semiquincentennial. By inviting responses to themes like Unfinished Revolutions and Tell Everyone's Story, the show encourages public reflection on the nation's past, present, and future. It also highlights regional artistic talent from the mid-Atlantic area, strengthening local cultural engagement.
