The Current in Stowe, VT stages 35th annual free, outdoor, sculpture exhibition

The Current, a contemporary art center in Stowe, Vermont, is staging the 35th annual edition of Exposed, a free outdoor sculpture exhibition running from June 20 to October 17, 2026. This year's exhibition honors Vermont sculptors Christopher Curtis and the late John Matusz, who as former curators helped establish the exhibition and expand it into public spaces. Featured artists include Christopher Curtis, Miles Greenberg, Tomokazu Matsuyama, and John Matusz, along with open-call selected artists such as M. Julian Isaacson, Scott Boyd, Marcel Regueiro, Eva Tellier, Christopher Yockey, and Duy Hoàng. The exhibition opens with a free public festival on June 20, including artist talks, a guided walking tour, and live music.

This exhibition matters because it demonstrates how a small-town art institution can sustain a major public art program for 35 years, making contemporary sculpture accessible to all without admission fees. By honoring the founding curators and featuring both established and emerging artists, Exposed reinforces the role of public art in fostering community engagement and dialogue with the landscape. The inclusion of artists like Miles Greenberg, who uses cutting-edge 3D scanning technology, and Tomokazu Matsuyama, who blends cultural references, highlights the exhibition's commitment to showcasing innovative contemporary practices in a non-traditional setting.
