International art prize set to return to York – here’s when the work goes on show

The Aesthetica Art Prize is returning to York Art Gallery for its 20th anniversary, running from July 17 to November 15. The exhibition will feature shortlisted artists including Kazuaki Koseki, Felipe Castelblanco, Filip Haglund, Hope Strickland, Jarrett Murphy, Alexis Pichot, Chrissy Lush, and Tommy Goguely, whose works explore themes such as the environment, global identities, colonial histories, and technology's impact on perception. The prize is curated by Cherie Federico, director of Aesthetica.

This milestone edition matters because the Aesthetica Art Prize has evolved into a platform that not only exhibits contemporary art but actively supports artists' careers and fosters global dialogue on urgent issues like ecological strain and cultural identity. Hosting the prize at York Art Gallery reinforces York's role as a champion of creative arts, blending digital and physical mediums while showcasing artistic diversity to a broad public audience.
