Basel satellite art fair June has announced it will not hold a 2026 edition, taking what co-founder Esperanza Rosales calls a 'strategic pause' due to unforeseen changes in external partnerships. The boutique, stand-less fair, which takes place in a Herzog & de Meuron-designed gallery near Messeplatz, was co-founded in 2019 by Rosales, owner of VI, VII gallery in Oslo, and Christian Andersen, who runs his eponymous gallery in Copenhagen. Past editions featured around 15 mostly European galleries, including Fabian Lang from Zurich and Vienna's Charim.
The pause highlights the fragility of smaller satellite fairs in the competitive Basel art week ecosystem, where rising costs and shifting partnerships can disrupt even well-regarded niche events. Rosales says she remains committed to returning in 2027 with a refreshed edition that responds to the evolving contemporary art landscape, signaling that the fair's model may need to adapt to survive amid broader market pressures.
