16th Gwangju Biennale Announces 43 Participating Artists, Highlighting Diverse Generational and Regional Voices

The Gwangju Biennale Foundation has announced the 43 participating artists and groups for the 16th edition of the Gwangju Biennale, selected by Artistic Director Ho Tzu Nyen alongside curators Park Gahee, Brian Kuan Wood, and Che Kyongfa. The roster features a diverse range of voices across generations and regions, with artists including Nina Canell, Wang Jiahao, Rafik Greiss, Tehching Hsieh, Amanda Heng, Geumhyung Jeong, Matthew Barney, and others, whose works explore transformation from molecular to cosmic scales.

This announcement matters because the Gwangju Biennale is one of Asia's most significant contemporary art events, and its thematic focus on transformation as an ongoing process of practice—emphasizing encounter, solidarity, and mutual influence—reflects current global art discourse. The inclusion of artists from varied backgrounds and the biennale's approach to change as gradual and everyday positions it as a platform for cross-cultural dialogue and experimental practices.
