Un dessin de Jordaens regagne Anvers
The Flemish government has acquired a large and beautiful drawing by Jacob Jordaens for €125,000 from Colnaghi gallery and deposited it at the Museum Plantin-Moretus in Antwerp. The drawing is currently on display at the museum until July 5, and its return to the city on the Scheldt had been anticipated, as it was classified among the Flemish 'topstukken' (masterpieces).
This acquisition matters because it brings a significant work by Jordaens back to Antwerp, reinforcing the city's cultural heritage and the museum's collection of 16th- and 17th-century art. The public disclosure of the price also adds transparency to the art market, while the drawing's classification as a Flemish topstuk underscores its national importance.
