The Vancouver Art Gallery Welcomes The World This Summer

The Vancouver Art Gallery is launching a major summer 2026 program featuring four international exhibitions, family activities, and soccer-inspired art to welcome visitors during a busy tourist season. Highlights include 'Future Geographies: Art in the Century of Climate Change,' Canada's first large-scale climate-focused contemporary art show; 'SANCTUARY: The Ancient Forest Experience,' an immersive installation; and 'That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature,' the gallery's most comprehensive Emily Carr exhibition in over two decades. The museum will also host free outdoor screenings of international football matches, offer limited-edition merchandise by artists including Chantelle Trainor-Matties and Karin Bubaš, and partner with Fairmont Hotel Vancouver for an art-inspired afternoon tea.

This programming matters because it positions the Vancouver Art Gallery as a cultural anchor during a period of heightened global tourism, using art to engage both local and international audiences. By blending contemporary climate discourse, Indigenous perspectives, and popular culture like soccer, the gallery demonstrates how museums can remain relevant and accessible while showcasing the diverse stories and artistic heritage of British Columbia. The initiative also highlights the gallery's role in fostering community connection and cross-cultural dialogue through visual art.
